The typeface workshop will be held from March 3rd to March 5th for a total of three days. Guided by Professor Stephanie Schwarz from Germany.
Learning Process
Day 1
On the first day, the teachers showed us the projects that they had done and described the principles of typeface design.
Practice
Later, the teacher asked for a starting point from "n" and "o", let us tried to design the typeface on a special paper.
Day 2
The teacher showed a website for making typefaces called the Fontstruct in the class. I can develop the concept of sketches into digital typefaces if using this website.
Fontstruct
Use the website to design 26 letters.
Day 3
On the last day, we printed the works and attached them to the wall. Everyone makes a simple presentation that described the meaning and inspiration of the fonts.
Gain
I think that the systematic learning typeface design is really useful for my MA research process, because some projects express my thoughts by skills. When the fonts that I created were added to the works, the whole works will become more stronger. Moreover, the typeface design is also very interesting, it requires the designer to observe things carefully, which find obvious features and cover them into 26 letters, and finally create a beautiful and unique typeface.
